Butterflies Are Blooming
March 1 - April 30
Now arriving weekly in the Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory are the chrysalises from tropical regions of Central and South America, Asia and Africa, that will emerge as beautiful butterflies and freely fly among guests in the weeks to come. These tropical visitors delight guests of all ages with their playful and enchanting methods of flight. While the way they fly may seem random and chaotic, each genus exhibits distinct flight patterns that aid in avoiding predators, selecting mates and locating food.
Children’s Activities
March 1–April 30, Daylight hours only
Celebrate spring in the Children’s Garden with lots of family fun. Enjoy outdoor activities such as becoming a butterfly by trying on butterfly life cycle costumes or taking an imaginary journey by playing the Monarch Migration game. In the Log Cabin, put on a butterfly puppet show to entertain your friends or family or read from an assortment of butterfly storybooks—there’s something for all ages. Then discover spring colors and weave them into a colorful tapestry or learn catchy spring songs in a variety of languages. Activities vary daily, check at the Information Center for what is happening that day.
Tuesday Night Lights
Bring your flashlights on Tuesday nights until 9 pm to see the nightlife in the Tropical Conservatory.
