Ryan Neil, one of the most sought-after bonsai artists in the country, will headline this year’s show. Ryan studied in Japan for six years and has taught workshops and given demonstrations at bonsai conferences throughout the world. Twice he has been featured in Bonsai Focus magazine.
Ryan will give demonstrations on Saturday from 12–2 pm and Sunday from 11 am–1 pm. As he works on refining a large bonsai he will discuss his vision for the tree and explain each step of his work. Additional demonstrations by other bonsai artists will be held throughout the weekend. The show will also feature displays of stunning bonsai entered by bonsai artists from throughout Michigan and beyond. There will also be a fascinating collection of suiseki or viewing stones on display.
Workshops are planned for all skill levels. There will also be two “Bring Your Own Tree” workshops taught by guest artist Ryan Neil. The Bonsai Show will also include vendors from across the country, offering handmade bonsai pots, large specimen trees, affordable trees with “bonsai potential” and a complete assortment of bonsai supplies.
