Chakaia Booker is an American born sculptor who works in discarded items and found objects. For this sculpture, Booker used recycled tires as the material. Rendezvous is sited in conversation with another sculpture by Booker called Urban Excursion. Look closely at the innovative way that Booker creates texture and form with the tires. Says Booker, “…people begin life like newly treaded tires but wheels, tires, suggest mobility, yet the circular form implies the motion of ‘going around in circles.’ Still bound to old ideas, attitudes or behaviors.”
