Among Beverly Pepper's most publicly acclaimed and personally rewarding projects are the majestic Todi Columns. Originally presented in the central plaza of the Medieval city of Todi, Italy the steel colossi seemed at once ancient and modern, possible remainders of another age or beacons for a future culture. This important early sketch examines several possibilities of sculptural form for three of the forthcoming Todi Columns. It is one of the few surviving preparatory drawings for the project.
