The Master Lecture Series brings world-renowned gardeners, artists, authors and speakers to Meijer Gardens each spring and fall. Held in the Grand Room, lectures are free for members and included with admission for non-members.
The Environmental lecture presents speakers and topics related to the natural environment. Past speakers include Louie Schwartzberg and Lee Stetson. The next speaker is Daniel Janzen, together with his wife and research partner, Winnifred Hallwachs. See Events section below for more information.
Secchia Garden Lecture
In April, Meijer Gardens hosts the Secchia Garden Lecture, which features internationally recognized gardeners speaking on a variety of horticultural topics. Past presenters include Peter Hatch, Paula Hayes, Sydney Eddison and Adrian Bloom. This year's speaker is Dr. Kendall Brown. See Events section below for more information.
C. Schoenknecht & W. Paul Sculpture Lecture
Each October, the C. Schoenknecht & W. Paul Sculpture Lecture brings to Meijer Gardens an internationally acclaimed sculptor to speak about his or her work. Often, the speaker has work on display in the permanent collection. Past sculptors include Jenny Holzer, David Nash, Bernar Venet and Beverly Pepper. This year's speaker is yet to be announced.
Great Authors Lecture
Every other autumn, an author writing on topics regarding the mission of Meijer Gardens presents a related lecture. Recent authors include Geoff, Dyer, Alexandra Fuller, Jorie Graham and Ian Frazier. The next Great Authors Lecture will be held in 2017.
Physician As Writer Lecture
Debuting in October 2016, this new lecture will feature doctors who are also highly accomplished writers and speakers, as we explore the parallels of writing and medicine and the power of art—in this case the written word—to heal. The inaugural event in this new series will feature Dr. Abraham Verghese. See Events section below for more information.

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park is honored to host Dietrich Klinge at the11th Annual Charles Schoenknecht & Ward Paul Sculpture Lecture. This is an unusual event for the internationally renowned sculptor and printmaker, who rarely speaks publicly and has never accepted such an opportunity in the United States. An Evening with Dietrich Klinge will offer an intimate and personal public appearance as part of a conversation with Chief Curator and Vice President of Collections and Exhibitions, Joseph Becherer.
