Excitement surrounds the holiday season as the annual Metro Health Christmas & Holiday Traditions exhibition brings the glow of over 300,000 lights, strolling carolers, rooftop reindeer and 46 international trees and displays.

This year, explore our theme of Handcrafted and learn more about the care that goes into creating the seasons traditions by hand. Celebrate the creativity on display made with hundreds of skilled and caring hands.

Honoring holiday cultures around the world, Meijer Gardens focuses on the authenticity of beloved holiday traditions: Germany tree, adorned with handmade glass ornaments and homemade springerle cookies, the England tree with antique Christmas cards and mistletoe, and the beautiful Eid ul-Fitr display, which celebrates the end of Ramadan.

The companion Railway Garden exhibition is a unique horticultural display that incorporates garden design, miniature buildings handmade from natural materials, and model trolleys and trains.

We will be open until 9 pm on November 24, December 1, 8, 14–19, 21–23, 26, 28–30

PLEASE NOTE: Meijer Gardens will be closed for the day on November 26, December 25 & January 1. Due to current guidelines, capacity restrictions will be in effect and wait times may apply.

In addition to our current early member hours (which happen on the first full weekend every month on Saturdays from 8 am – 9 am and Sundays from 9 am – 11 am) Meijer Gardens will also open early for members only on Sundays from 9 am - 11 am on November 29, December 13, 20, 27.

What is new and different?

How will the exhibition be different this year?
Metro Health Christmas & Holiday Traditions will once again feature international trees and displays, the beloved Railway Garden, and thousands of twinkling lights inside and out. The layout of the displays will be spread out more than in years past, to allow for greater physical distancing. Guests will notice that more of the trees and displays are located in the Huizenga Grand Room.

Are you tracking capacity?
Yes. We are limiting capacity to 30% of our normal capacity to comply with current State of Michigan guidelines. When we reach capacity, guests will enter on a one-in, one-out basis. Wait times may apply.

What precautions are you taking to help prevent the spread of COVID-19?
We are following all local, state and federal guidelines. The exhibition is set up in a way for guests to more easily physically distance, we have hand sanitizer stations set up throughout, and are observing capacity restrictions. Visit to view our full safety plan.

Where will I wait in line?
The line will remain at the front desk and extend into the Cook Entryway and PNC Portico.

Can I buy tickets online or ahead of time?
We do not offer advanced tickets. All admission tickets are purchased upon arrival.

Is any of the exhibition outdoors?
The trees, cultural displays and Railway Garden that are featured as part of the Metro Health Christmas & Holiday Traditions exhibition are located indoors. The outdoor Gardens & Sculpture Park is open with nearly 300,000 lights featured throughout the grounds.

Will we be able to visit with Santa?
Virtual Santa visits will be offered on the Tuesday nights (starting November 24) before Christmas from 5-8 pm. These interactive visits with Santa will occur in the Hauenstein and Pfeiffer Event Rooms, located off of the main BISSELL Corridor. While your children will not be able to sit on Santa’s lap this year, we have a virtual connection with Santa and he will interact with guests live from the North Pole.

Will we hear the Dickens Carolers?
The Dickens Carolers will be here performing virtually on Tuesday evenings before Christmas from 6-8 pm. Guests will be able to enjoy these live performances on monitors located throughout the facility.

Will we see the Rooftop Reindeer?
The Rooftop Reindeer will be here from 1-4 pm on the Saturdays leading up to Christmas. While you will be able to get close to them for photos, guests will not be able to pet or touch the reindeer this year.

I am a member. Are you still having member holiday parties?
In order to comply with current State of Michigan guidelines, we are not able to host in person member parties. However, we will have some great virtual experiences that will be emailed to all members. We have added additional member early hours during the exhibition this year:
Exclusive member early hours during exhibition are:
Saturdays: 8 - 9 am on Dec 5 and Jan 2
Sundays: 9 - 11 am on Nov 29; Dec 6 ,13, 20, 27; Jan 3

Are you open late on any nights other than Tuesday nights?

PLEASE NOTE: Meijer Gardens will be closed for the day on November 26, December 25 & January 1.

What is the construction that is happening?
