This fall we will discuss the inspiring true story of Emma Gatewood, the 67-year-old grandmother who in 1955 hiked the Appalachian Trail—the first woman to hike the trail alone. Grandma Gatewood’s Walk: The Inspiring Story of the Woman Who Saved the Appalachian Trail, by Ben Montgomery tells the story of this pioneering woman who became a hiking celebrity and brought attention to the poor trail conditions of the then nearly 30-year-old trail, saving it from possible demise. As part of our afternoon we will hear about hiking experiences from guest presenters who have hiked long-distance trails, including the nearby North Country Trail.
Limited to 20 adults.
