Plantoir

Claes Oldenburg initially gained acclaim as a leader of the Pop Art movement, re-creating ordinary objects from consumer or popular culture. Beginning in the late 1970s, he started working with Coosje van Bruggen as a husband-and-wife team on a series of large-scale public projects. The couple is celebrated internationally for their transformation of objects from everyday life into colossal projects. Plantoir—the first monumental sculpture created specifically for a garden context—was sited specifically by the artists.
