Working with a small group of assistants from his studio in Shanghai, China, Masayuki Koorida uses stone as his primary medium to create large-scale, technically ambitious projects. The transformative practice of his work is largely achieved by hand carving and polishing. Existence, a five-part granite sculpture, is an archetypal project for Koorida. The piece was sited specifically by the artist during his visit to Meijer Gardens.
