Renowned British sculptor David Nash has created a legendary body of work, almost exclusively in association with trees. Iconic are large, outdoor works the artist has boldly carved then carefully charred—knowing full well such works will eventually perish under the stress of the elements. Nash has carefully selected a small group of these works, however, to be translated into bronze. King and Queen, initially carved and charred in 1997, was painstakingly realized in bronze a decade later and carefully patinated to replicate the wooden original.
