Chakaia Booker
Rendezvous
Chakaia Booker is a well-known American-born sculptor who works in discarded items and found objects. Booker used recycled tires as the material for this sculpture. Rendezvous is sited in conversation with Urban Excursion, another sculpture by the artist. Look closely at the innovative way she creates texture and form with the tires. Booker says, “People begin life like newly treaded tires but wheels, tires, suggest mobility, yet the circular form implies the motion of ‘going around in circles.’ Still bound to old ideas, attitudes or behaviors.”
