Ossip Zadkine
Standing Woman
Ossip Zadkine is one of the leading figures of Cubism. The artist understood the ideals first put forward in the paintings of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque before he translated them to three-dimensional form. Here, the female nude has been described as a series of intersecting planes and shapes. The impact of African art is also apparent, especially in the mask-like face.
