Bill and Mary Buchen are a musician and artist team who design public art installations and interactive sound sculptures. Together, they own and operate Sonic Architecture. Talking Drums consists of three drums, the quinto, tumba, and conga and together comprise a classic Afro-Cuban drum ensemble.

This piece, and all of their sculptures at Meijer Gardens, were commissioned specifically for the Lena Meijer Children’s Garden.
